Dr. Jim Matthews is Senior Director, Public Policy, Science and Health Policy at sanofi pasteur. His primary responsibility is to act as the single point of contact with the US Government regarding new Pandemic Preparedness inititives and to coordinate and oversee sanofi pasteur's reponses to US Government initiatives. He has served as Principal Scientist and Director of External Research and Development for the sanofi pasteur group where his primary responsibilities were contacts with other corporate and academic institutions, vaccine technology covering novel delivery systems, new therapeutic and prophylactic targets, and oncology. He has led projects focused on improving influenza vaccines through formulation development, alternate expression technology, and adjuvant technology. Dr. Matthews has also worked for Bristol-Myers Squibb in the area of herpes and influenza viruses and for Carter Wallace Healthcare in the area of viral diagnostics research and development. He earned his PhD in Microbiology from the University of Pennsylvania.
